Are YOU a talented athlete?

There are 3 kinds of athletic talent.  The first is natural talent.  Some people are born with greater coordination, muscle strength and speed than others.  It's a good gift to have.  Many athletes get a lot of attention for nothing more than the fact that they were born with the “right” genes.

The second kind of athletic talent is intelligence.  Not brawn, but brains.  You can have a great arm, but make a lousy quarterback if you have no ability to read the field and make quick, good decisions about how to approach the next play.  Being intelligent is even more important than natural talent.  Born athletes are good players; intelligent athletes have the potential to become even better.

The third kind of athletic talent is more rare and more valuable than even the combination of both athleticism and intelligence.  The third kind of athletic talent is passion.  Passionate athletes begin with the attributes they were born with and they make intelligent decisions on how they could become even better.  But, it is their passion which drives them to succeed . They not only know what they need to do to improve, they do it.  If you look around, you'll see passionate athletes on your team and in the gym.  You may have to look beyond the person who gets the most play time or who can lift the most weight.  You will know them because they are the ones who work out both in season and out of season to improve themselves.  They are the ones who look for ways to work harder, not seek excuses to slack off.   Often, they are the people who draw very little attention to themselves, because they are busy getting better, not talking about how good they already are.
